Kuala Lumpur, 10 July 2015:  The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) at its Management meeting on 29 June 2015 appointed Zaharudin Daud as its new Vice-President, replacing Bill Lisle who has been promoted as the Regional Chief Executive of AIA Group in Hong Kong with effect from 1 June 2015.

 

Zaharudin is the Chief Executive Officer of Etiqa Insurance Berhad and has over 20 years of experience in the general insurance business both as a broker and direct insurer.  He began his career with Maybank Group in 1992, holding various positions in Broking department, Marketing & Sales and Corporate Enterprise Non-Life before being appointed as Head, Operations, Non-Life business in 2003. In 2005 he was appointed as the Head, Retail Product Management, Non-Life Business and later assumed the role of Principal Officer of Etiqa Singapore Operations from 2010 to August 2014.

 

Meanwhile, at the LIAM’s Extraordinary General Meeting held on the same day, Anusha Thavarajah was elected as a new member of the LIAM Management Committee for the term 2015/2016.

 

Anusha took over as the new Chief Executive Officer of AIA Bhd. on 11 June 2015, replacing Bill Lisle. Having over 20 years of experience in insurance, Anusha is the first woman to join AIA’s rank of CEOs in the life insurer’s six largest markets in the Asia Pacific region.  Her key areas of focus include growing and strengthening the company’s three main business lines comprising Agency, partnership distribution and corporate solutions as well as overseeing the growth and development of AIA Takaful’s business in Malaysia.

 

For the 2015/2016 term, LIAM’s Management Committee is headed by the President, Mr Toi See Jong, CEO of Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd. He is a qualified actuary from United Kingdom having over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry. A well-recognized business leader with a wealth of experience and strong understanding of both the local and overseas markets, Mr Toi charted his career path with the first position based in United Kingdom. He has successfully spearheaded and managed financial organizations in various positions over the years, amongst others include Appointed Actuary and Chief Executive Officer in Malaysia before taking on other senior positions in China, Singapore and Hong Kong.

 

The Management Committee is also supported by six other members namely Mr Ramzi Toubassy, CEO of AmMetLife Insurance Berhad (Formerly known as AmLife Insurance Berhad), Mr Loke Kah Meng, CEO of AXA Affin Life Insurance Berhad, Mr Vincent Kwo Shih Kang, CEO of Gibraltar BSN Life Berhad (Formerly known as Uni. Asia Life Assurance Berhad), YBhg. Dato Koh Yaw Hui, CEO of Great Eastern Life Assurance (M) Berhad, Mr George Chew, CEO of Manulife Insurance Berhad and Mr Philip Seah, CEO of Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad.

 

In fulfilling the Government’s aspiration of insuring 75% of Malaysians by 2020, LIAM continues to work very closely with the regulatory authorities and stakeholders in embarking on various educational and awareness programmes in promoting and developing a progressive life insurance industry for the nation.
