YOUTH VIDEO AWARDS GRAND FINALE

UiTM, Saito College and Lim Kok Wing University win top three prizes at Malaysia’s 1st Largest Inter University Social Video Production Challenge
 
Kuala Lumpur, September 21, 2015 - The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) through its community service platform, Insurans Hayat Cares today unveiled the winners of the 1st Malaysian largest inter-varsity Youth Video Awards 2015 at the Grand Finale involving 11 teams from six universities and colleges.
 
The Really Big Picture Productions from Universiti Teknologi MARA Puncak Perdana came out Champion with their winning entry, “Dream Jar” and walked away with a trophy, Best University Award, Best Lecturer Award and cash RM8,000.
 
1st Runner up went to Caramel Productions of Saito College with their winning entry, “My Gardening Hero. My DAD” and walked away with a trophy and 1st Runner Up Lecturer Award and cash RM5,000.
 
Meanwhile the Stephand Productions of Lim Kok Wing University of Creative Technology came third with “9 Lives” and walked away with a trophy and cash RM2,000.
 
The 8 other consolation winners received a Trophy and RM500 cash each.
 
The social media video production challenge which has attracted 541 entries from 20 universities is focusing on Malaysian youths and is committed to sharing the message that life is precious, with the campaign mission, Value Life, Capture Life and Share Life.
 
Speaking at the Awards ceremony, LIAM’s President Toi See Jong commented, “The Youth Video Awards is one of the initiatives undertaken by the Insurans Hayat Cares platform as part of the objectives of the industry to be more engaging with the youths – the next generation of leaders and the largest demographic profile of Malaysians.  We believe that the young generation needs to be exposed and made aware of the importance of good planning in life and the importance of life protection.”
 
“Ultimately, it is through the Youth Video Awards that the industry would like to see youths from all walks of life, races, cultures and background to work together in unity as Malaysians”.
 
This platform also serves to communicate the message and the campaign mission “Value Life, Capture Life and Share Life”, to the young social media producers who can relate it with their life experiences and share them with other youths out there, Toi added.
 
The Youth Video Awards’ theme is all about You Only Live Once (YOLO) which aims to create awareness to Gen-Y on the importance of appreciating life and how life is short as you only can live once.
 
The event was held in GSC Signature in The Gardens Mall and was attended by LIAM’s senior management and representatives from member companies, producer and film makers, officials from the Ministry of Education, Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (FINAS) and lecturers from the winning universities.  They include LIAM’s immediate Past President, Mr Vincent Kwo, Chairman of the Industry Promotion Committee of LIAM, Mr. Ramzi Toubassy, Founder of MYC!, Mr. Jason Ko, Malaysian Film Maker and Director, Datuk Yusuf Haslam and Astro Supersport Commentator, Abbas Saad.
 
The finalists were judged based on Storyboard and Plot (40%); technical excellence (technical creativity, visual and soundtrack) (40%) and best usage of theme “You Only Live Once” (20%).
 
The largest ever social media video contest of its kind with 20 participating Universities is brought to you by Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) via the Insurans Hayat Cares community platform which is represented by 16-member companies, co organized with MYC, supported by Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (FINAS), Ministry of Education (MOE) and SONY Malaysia.
