LIAM joins other Malaysians to bid farewell to former Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz and welcome Yang Berbahagia, Datuk Muhammad bin Ibrahim as the 8th Governor

Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday, 3 May 2016 – The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) joins other Malaysians to bid farewell to the respected and beloved former Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz who had served the Central Bank and the nation for the past 30 years.
 
“LIAM wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to YBhg.Tan Sri for the outstanding leadership, unwavering commitment and enormous contributions to the nation’s financial industry. Through YBhg.Tan Sri’s exemplary leadership and great vision, YBhg. Tan Sri has set a high benchmark for Malaysia in the international arena,” said Mr Toi See Jong, President of LIAM.
 
“We would also like to congratulate Yang Berbahagia Datuk Muhammad bin Ibrahim for being appointed as the 8th Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) effective 1st May 2016.  This appointment is indeed very timely in recognition of YBhg. Datuk’s outstanding contributions in various capacities at BNM over the last 32 years. We have great confidence that YBhg. Datuk will continue with the legacy to bring the Central Bank and the nation’s financial industry to greater heights of achievements,” Mr Toi added.
 
The smooth leadership transition will pave the way for the life insurance industry to continue with its efforts to work closely with BNM and key stakeholders in embarking on various educational, promotional and awareness programmes for the rakyat. We are confident that the strategic direction of BNM and LIAM will fulfil the  Government’s aspiration of insuring 75% of Malaysians by 2020 and extending financial inclusion objective  to the underserved population.
