“The industry also plans to attract young talents from all over the country to join the industry and become a career of choice. We hope to create more job opportunities for students from various disciplines and to change the misconception that the insurance industry is only focusing on a job as an insurance agent,” he added.

The LIAM Structured Internship Programme is open to all final year Malaysian students of all disciplines from public universities with CGPA 3.0 and above. Successful candidates will be attached with life insurance companies or reinsurance companies for the 3-month period. Interns will be paid a monthly allowance of RM800 per month.

During the internship, students will be exposed to the day to day operations in a life insurance company or reinsurance company and undergo soft skills training on interpersonal and business communications, writing skills and leadership skills.

An orientation programme will precede before the actual internship where interns will be briefed on the industry’s landscape, regulatory environment and key issues before being assigned to the respective life insurance/reinsurance companies.  A mentor will be assigned by each company to assist and guide interns on the day-to-day tasks during the internship.

Evaluation and assessment to review the internship experience will also be conducted at the end of the internship period to gauge the effectiveness of the programme for future improvement.

The LIAM Structured Internship Programme is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
