Life Insurance Industry launches #IDAREYOUChallenge2017

Another youth engagement program to create awareness on the importance of financial planning and protection among the young generation (Previously known as the Youth Video Awards – YOLO)
Kuala Lumpur, 4 October 2017 - The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia yesterday launched an innovative Youth Engagement Programme called #IDAREYOUChallenge2017, which is aimed to generate awareness on the importance of financial planning and protection among the young generation.
The #IDAREYOUChallenge2017 was officially launched by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Yang Berhormat Datuk Dr. Mary Yap Kain Ching at the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
Previously known as the Youth Video Awards LIAM has revamped the program this year and introduce #IDAREYOUChallenge2017, a platform for students of all races to work together in unity via nationwide classroom talks, collaboration with lecturers and edu-info roadshow engagements at universities and colleges in the country.
Speaking at the launch, YB Datuk Dr. Mary Yap commended LIAM and its 16 member companies for being proactive in organizing various initiatives for the youth in the country. 
“The youth is an important segment of the nation’s population as they are the next generation of leaders.  The Ministry welcomes such initiative especially from the corporate sector, which opens the minds of the youth to be more positive, mature and to foster awareness on the importance of future planning in order to have a more secure long-term financial goals when they enter the work place.” 
According to the President of LIAM, Mr Toi See Jong, the industry continues to engage with the youth to enhance their understanding and appreciation for life insurance.  The industry also would like to highlight the importance for the development of a financially independent community where prosperity can be enjoyed by all. “The family unit is the source of stability of any progressive nation and we want our youth to start planning now to provide for their families’ with a secured future,” Toi added.
“Other than creating awareness on the importance of financial planning and life insurance protection, students will get a chance to challenge their creativity by developing a marketing plan and producing a video as an educational tool to communicate their message. The #IDAREYOUChallenge2017 encourages students to think out-of-the box as they brainstorm their ideas together in a group and come up with an innovative business plan for this project.
It is the industry’s aspiration to nurture young talents to be creative and innovative and ultimately to produce great potential leaders of tomorrow,” added Mr Toi.
Meanwhile, Mr Ramzi Toubassy, Vice President of LIAM and Chairman of the Industry Promotion Committee, said that the industry has outlined a series of 20 roadshows and 10 classroom engagement sessions at 20 universities throughout the country starting from 13 September until 26 October 2017.
“As of to date, LIAM has received about 1,000 entries from the 9 roadshows conducted.  We are expecting more entries coming in the next few weeks with another 11 roadshows,” Mr. Toubassy added.
With a total of RM50,000 cash prizes up for grabs, the competition will undergo a few stages; from pre-awareness to formation of groups, shortlisting the top 30 to attend a Bootcamp for a pitch presentation;  shortlisting the best 10 Groups for the 2nd Bootcamp in preparation for the actual marketing presentation with video shooting and production; and ultimately selecting the best 5 Groups to compete at the Grand Finale scheduled in February next year.
The #IDAREYOUChallenge2017 is open to all full time undergraduates or graduates studying in Malaysia irrespective of their courses.  Students are encouraged to participate by submitting their most creative answer on the topic, “What would you do to feel financially secure?” either in written or video format together with the registration form via e-mail to no later than 31 October 2017.
The contest awards RM15,000 for the Grand Prize winner; RM7,500 for the 1st Runner Up and RM4,000 for the 2nd Runner Up.  The 4th to 10th categories will win RM2,000 each as Consolation Prizes.
Apart from the 10 finalists; the Best Video Award will win RM2,000, People’s Video Choice Award will win RM2,000, Best Lecturer Grand Prize and Best Lecturer 2nd place winners will win RM2,000 and RM1,500 respectively. A cash prize of RM2,000 for the Best Supporting University for the highest number of entries will also be awarded.
Selection of winners will be based on two sets of criteria i.e Marketing Concept which includes Innovation (30%), Usefulness (30%), Feasible (20%) and Scalable (20%) and the Video Production which includes Message (20%), Content (40%) and Technical (40%).
The #IDAREYOUChallenge2017 is a creative collaboration of 16 LIAM member companies under its community service platform, Insurans Hayat Cares and supported by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
