LIAM 50th Anniversary Raya Celebration: Embracing the Spirit of Muhibbah, Spreading Joy to 200 Children, Teens, and Caretakers from Five Charitable Homes

Kuala Lumpur, 23 April 2024 - The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) and its 16 member companies marked LIAM’s 50th Anniversary Raya by bringing cheer to approximately 200 children, teens and caretakers from five charitable homes.  Over 200 industry stakeholders, regulators, business partners, staff of LIAM member companies and media friends joined in the celebration in the spirit of muhibbah. 
 
The children, teens and caretakers were treated to a feast of Raya delicacies and entertained with traditional Raya songs in Sasana Kijang, Jalan Dato Onn, Kuala Lumpur. 
 
The children and teenagers aged from 5 to 19 were from Rumah Kebajikan Baitun Ehsan Al Khairi, Taman Maluri, Kuala Lumpur, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim & Asnaf Teratak Ummi, Batu Caves, Rumah Anak Yatim Nur Qaseh, Taman Melawati, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Lindungan Ikhlas, Taman Ayer Panas and Sweetcare Welfare Society, Selayang. 
 
LIAM’s President, Raymond Lew, and LIAM CEO, Mark O’Dell delighted the children and teens by presenting them with goodie bags containing stationery sets, water tumblers, tote bags, cutlery sets, face towels, notebooks, coin boxes, t shirts, caps, and soft toys.  
 
Additionally, Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group, which is owned by 14 life insurance companies in Malaysia, in collaboration with LIAM contributed RM40,000 worth of essential items to the five homes. 
 
LIAM President, Raymond Lew emphasized that the donation in kind will support the homes with daily necessities such as groceries, toiletries, household goods, and other related items tailored to each home’s specific needs. 
 
Raymond added, “In the current challenging environment, we understand the hardships and challenges faced by these charitable homes and we want to play our role as responsible corporate citizens through this initiative.  We hope the donation in-kind will enhance the operations of these homes ensuring smooth functioning and ultimately benefitting the children and teenagers under their care.”
 
Acknowledging the dedication of the caretakers, Raymond extended heartfelt appreciation, wishing for the children under their care to grow into responsible individuals, setting an example for future generations.
 
Through its Insurans Hayat Cares community platform, LIAM continues to engage with communities and bridge the gap between the life insurance industry and people from diverse backgrounds.  
 
“In alignment with the commemoration of LIAM's 50th golden jubilee, we are implementing several initiatives to further enhance LIAM’s presence.  Among them include a recent CSR initiative, where LIAM and its 16 member companies collectively contributing RM3 million or 100,000 doses of HPV vaccine to the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. The program called "Leaving No One Behind - HPV Vaccination Programme" aims to provide essential HPV Vaccination to girls in underprivileged, rural, and vulnerable communities across Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak.  The mission of Leaving No One Behind HPV Vaccination Programme is to eradicate cervical cancer, the 3rd most common cancer affecting women in Malaysia,” said Raymond.  
 
“We are committed not only to providing financial support but also to working closely with NCSM to ensure 100,000 deserving girls across the nation receive the vaccination,” he added.
 
Meanwhile, LIAM CEO, Mark O’Dell highlighted that this year marks a significant milestone for LIAM as we celebrate our Golden Anniversary. We have an exciting lineup of activities planned throughout the year, ranging from financial education initiatives to social media awareness campaigns, community projects, and CSR and ESG programmes, all aimed at commemorating LIAM's 50th Anniversary. These activities are designed to align with the industry's aspirations and objectives as we strive to support the Financial Sector Blueprint 2022-2026 agenda.
