SEMAK KASIH PORTAL HELPS MALAYSIANS TRACE UNCLAIMED TAKAFUL AND LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS LEFT BEHIND BY LOVED ONES
Joint initiative by MTA and LIAM Enhances Access to Financial Support, and Peace of Mind for Beneficiaries
Kuala Terengganu, 26 June 2026 – Malaysians now have a simpler and more convenient way to find out whether their deceased loved ones had family takaful or life insurance coverage through Semak Kasih, a centralised online portal designed to help families reconnect with protection benefits that may otherwise remain unclaimed.
The portal was officially launched today at Karnival Celik Kewangan (KCK) Terengganu 2026 by the Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Yang Berusaha Encik Adnan Zaylani Mohamad Zahid. Also present at the launch were Encik Mohd Radzuan Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA), and Mr. Mark O’Dell, Chief Executive Officer of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), reflecting the strong collaboration between the takaful and life insurance industry in delivering this consumer-focused initiative.
Developed jointly by MTA and LIAM under the purview of Bank Negara Malaysia, Semak Kasih serves as a one-stop public service platform that enables members of the public to facilitate checking whether a deceased family member had any family takaful certificate or life insurance policy with participating takaful operators and life insurers.
For many families, managing the affairs of a loved one who has passed away can be overwhelming, particularly when they are unaware of any financial protection arrangements that may have been put in place by the deceased. Without knowing which takaful operator or life insurer to contact, tracing potential protection benefits can be challenging, time-consuming and sometimes unsuccessful.
Semak Kasih addresses this gap by providing a single, centralised search platform that helps families identify the relevant takaful operator or life insurer and take the necessary next steps to enquire about potential benefits. Free and easy to use, the portal offers greater peace of mind while helping beneficiaries access financial support that may rightfully belong to them.
Through the portal, members of the public can:
- Check whether a deceased individual had a family takaful certificate or life insurance policy with participating providers
- Identify the relevant takaful operator or life insurer; and
- Obtain the necessary takaful operators or life insurer contact details to facilitate further enquiries and claims-related processes.
To perform a search, users simply need to:
- Visit the Semak Kasih portal at semak-kasih.mycoverage.my;
- Create an account using their name, MyKad/identification number, email address and mobile number;
- Log in to the portal upon successful registration; and
- Submit an enquiry by providing the deceased individual's identification details and uploading a clear copy of the death certificate.
If a matching record is found, users will be provided with the contact details of the relevant takaful operator or life insurer for further assistance. If no matching record is found, the portal will display the message: “No takaful certificates/insurance policies found in our records”.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, MTA Chief Executive Officer, Encik Mohd Radzuan Mohamed said: "Losing a loved one is never easy. Amid grief and uncertainty, many families are often left to navigate administrative and financial matters without knowing where to begin. In some cases, they may not even be aware that their loved ones had taken steps to protect them through family takaful or life insurance. Semak Kasih was developed to provide a simple, trusted and compassionate way for families to discover and reconnect with those protection benefits, ensuring that no entitled benefit is left unnoticed. It reflects the industry's commitment to making financial protection more accessible, meaningful and impactful for Malaysians."
Mr. Mark O’Dell, Chief Executive Officer of LIAM, added:
“Semak Kasih reflects our commitment to ensuring that no family is left unaware of the financial protection arrangements made by their loved ones. During a difficult period of loss, families should not have to face unnecessary challenges in determining whether takaful or insurance coverage exists. By bringing the industry together on a single platform, Semak Kasih helps reduce uncertainty for families during such moments. We hope this initiative will provide greater clarity, convenience and peace of mind to Malaysians nationwide.”
The launch of Semak Kasih reflects the collective commitment of MTA and LIAM, supported by Bank Negara Malaysia to strengthen consumer empowerment, financial inclusion and access to financial protection benefits. The initiative also demonstrates how industry-wide collaboration can deliver practical solutions that provide greater convenience and value to the public.
