LIAM and ML Re Reinforce CSR Commitment, Spreading Joy to 120 Children, Teens, and Caregivers in the Spirit of Hari Raya and Community Togetherness

Kuala Lumpur, 1 April 2026 – In the spirit of Hari Raya and community togetherness, the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), in collaboration with the Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad (ML Re) and its member companies, hosted a heartwarming Hari Raya celebration for 120 children, teenagers, and caregivers from four children’s homes across the Klang Valley.

Held at the Multipurpose Hall of the AICB Building, Jalan Dato’ Onn, Kuala Lumpur yesterday, the celebration brought festive cheer to the children, and their caregivers, who were treated to a spread of Raya delicacies and entertained with traditional Hari Raya songs.

The beneficiaries, aged between 2 and 17 years old, together with their caregivers were from Pertubuhan Anak Yatim & Asnaf An Naafi (Ampang Selangor); Rumah Khidmat Bonda Maimon (Rawang Selangor); Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak (Kepong Kuala Lumpur); and Persatuan Kebajikan Wen Hua (Kuala Lumpur & Selangor). Collectively, the homes received RM25,000 worth of in-kind contributions from LIAM and ML Re.

According to LIAM Chief Executive Officer, Mark O’Dell, the contributions are intended to support the daily operational needs of the homes. “Each home will receive essential household items tailored to their specific needs, including groceries, toiletries, electrical appliances, school supplies and other necessities. These items will be delivered directly to the homes, and we hope that this contribution will help ease operational challenges while supporting the well-being of the children and teenagers,” he said.

In addition to the contributions, the children and teenagers were delighted to receive goodie bags presented by LIAM’s President, Pauline Teoh, LIAM Vice-President, Vibha Coburn, LIAM CEO, Mark O’Dell, and ML Re Group Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Cheah. The goodie bags - generously contributed by 16 life insurance companies - contained teddy bears, educational books, financial board game, sticky pads, stationery sets, notebooks, water bottles, toiletries set, tote bags, caps, foldable bags, T-shirts, draw string sports bags, coin boxes and Raya cookies.

LIAM continues to champion community engagement through its Insurans Hayat Cares platform, bringing the life insurance industry closer to communities from all walks of life.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Mark O’Dell said, “Hari Raya is a time of reflection, gratitude, and togetherness. It reminds us of the importance of compassion, generosity, and caring for one another. Today, we celebrate these values in a simple yet meaningful way.”
“At LIAM, we believe that beyond our role as an industry, we have a responsibility to give back to the communities we serve. This gathering reflects our ongoing commitment to making a small but meaningful difference in the lives of others,” Mark added.

Mark also paid tribute to the caregivers and guardians of the homes, recognising their unwavering dedication. “On behalf of LIAM and our member companies, we extend our deepest appreciation for your dedication and your sacrifices. Through your patience, resilience, and compassion, you are shaping lives, nurturing confidence, and giving these young individuals the foundation they need to move forward with hope and dignity.”

Meanwhile, Chairman of ML Re, YBhg Datuk Kamaruddin Taib, said, “At ML Re, we believe that giving back to the community is an integral part of our responsibility as an industry partner. Through this annual Hari Raya outreach programme, we are honoured to work alongside LIAM and its member companies to share compassion and joy with children and teenagers from charitable homes. It is our hope that today’s celebration brings happiness to the children and serves as a reminder of the importance of togetherness, care, and inclusion in all that we do.”

The annual Hari Raya programme is one of many initiatives under the Insurans Hayat Cares banner. Over the past 50 years, LIAM and its member companies have undertaken numerous CSR initiatives including blood donation drives, contributions to orphanages and elderly homes, hospital visits, youth engagement initiatives, and financial education campaigns aimed at supporting underserved communities across Malaysia.
