Life Insurance Industry Launches Nationwide Blood Donation and Health Awareness Campaign in Conjunction with Merdeka and Hari Malaysia
Over 40 blood donation locations nationwide and free health screenings at Medan MARA from 7–8 August 2025
Kuala Lumpur, 7 August 2025 – In celebration of Merdeka and Hari Malaysia, the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) and its 16 member companies, in collaboration with the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors (NAMLIFA) and Pusat Darah Negara (PDN), have launched a two-month Nationwide Blood Donation Campaign, running from 1 August to 30 September 2025.
As part of the initiative, LIAM is also hosting a two-day Blood Donation and Health Awareness Campaign on 7 and 8 August 2025 at the Concourse Area, Medan MARA, Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur.
The nationwide campaign was officially launched today by Mr Thomas Tan Koon Peng, Director of LINK and Regional Offices Department, Bank Negara Malaysia. The event was witnessed by Ms Vibha Coburn, Vice President of LIAM, Dr Mohammad Masrin bin Md Zahrin, Director of the National Blood Bank, Mr Krishnan A/L Appanu, President of NAMLIFA, and Mr Mark O’Dell, CEO of LIAM.
Spanning five key regions - Central, Northern, Southern, East Coast, and East Malaysia - the campaign features more than 40 blood donation locations nationwide, targeting over 5,000 donors to help replenish the national blood supply.
Speaking at the launch, Ms Vibha Coburn, Vice President of LIAM, stated: “The life insurance industry has long championed initiatives that benefit society. This campaign is one of our significant annual efforts. At the heart of our mission is ensuring the financial and physical well-being of all Malaysians — from consumer education and talent development to supporting national social protection. Through this campaign, we aim to raise awareness about regular health screenings and healthy living.”
Six healthcare partners namely National Cancer Society of Malaysia, ROSE Foundation, National Kidney Foundation, KPJ Specialist Healthcare Centre Kinrara, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), and SALAM Shah Alam Specialist Hospital are providing free health screenings, consultation services, counselling, and health talks at Medan MARA from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm on both days.
Over the years, the life insurance industry has actively driven impactful community programmes. Among these is the i-MULA 50 Starter Pack Insurance Fund, launched in conjunction with LIAM’s 50th Anniversary in August 2024. This RM5 million initiative offers RM50 insurance subsidies to 100,000 first-time policyholders.
“To date, over RM3.3 million has been utilised, benefiting more than 66,000 Malaysians. The remaining RM1.7 million is available until 31 December 2025 or earlier if fully utilised. We encourage eligible individuals to seize this opportunity,” Vibha added.
The industry is also committed to healthcare access. The “Leaving No One Behind – HPV Vaccination and Screening Programme”, in collaboration with the National Cancer Society and ROSE Foundation, has provided HPV vaccinations to 100,000 young girls and cervical screenings to 10,000 women in underserved communities. This RM3.65 million initiative underscores the industry's dedication to cancer prevention and early detection.
Through the #LIAMGoldenMoments Campaign, LIAM contributed RM100,000 to five NGOs and social enterprises supporting marginalised groups and sustainability efforts.
“We continue to support national social protection through initiatives such as the Perlindungan Tenang Voucher Programme, which will benefit up to two million Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah recipients. We applaud the Government’s continued support, as announced in Budget 2025. It aligns with our mission to make insurance more accessible and empower underserved communities,” Vibha said.
Meanwhile, Mr Mark O’Dell, CEO of LIAM, highlighted that the campaign goes beyond blood donation.
“Today’s campaign is about empowering Malaysians to take charge of their health. We invite the public to Medan MARA for complimentary screenings, consultations, advisory services, and engaging health talks.
We are committed to playing a meaningful role in promoting wellness and preventive care. We believe that good health is the foundation of financial security, and we will continue to do our part in building a healthier, more resilient nation,” Mark added.
The two-day event features:
Health screenings: blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body composition analysis, smokerlyzer, HPV PCR screening, kidney health checks, eye tests, laser pain management
• Health awareness and consultations: mental health, cancer awareness, specialist advisory services
• Health talks by medical experts
