Kuala Lumpur, 16 April 2025 – In the spirit of Hari Raya and community togetherness, the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), in collaboration with the Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group (MLRe) Berhad and LIAM member companies, today hosted a heartwarming Hari Raya celebration with 120 children, teenagers, and caregivers from five charitable homes across the Klang Valley.
Held at the Grand Ballroom of Premiera Hotel Kuala Lumpur, the annual event gathered 300 industry stakeholders, including regulators, business partners, industry stakeholders, insurance company representatives, and media friends - all united under the spirit of Muhibbah and compassion.
As part of LIAM’s long-standing Insurans Hayat Cares initiative, the event saw the contribution of RM25,000 in daily essentials—jointly contributed by LIAM and MLRe, to support the day-to-day needs of the five homes namely Pusat Jagaan Kasih Murni, Taman Keramat, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Mesra Assalam, Puchong, Yayasan Noor Manzil, Puchong, Hiichiikok Foundation, Taman Rainbow and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Thangam Illam, Pandan Indah.
The donations in-kind - which include food, groceries, toiletries, school supplies, and other household necessities - will be delivered directly to the homes in the coming days.
In addition, children and teens aged 2 to 17 received cheerful goodie bags containing teddy bears, stationery sets, notebooks, water bottles, cutlery sets, tote bags, T-shirts, face towels, and coin boxes—generously contributed by 16 life insurance companies.
The donations-in kind and goodie bags were handed over to the homes and the children by LIAM Immediate Past President, Raymond Lew, Chairman of MLRe, YBhg Datuk Kamaruddin Taib, LIAM CEO, Mark O’Dell and MLRe CEO, Patrick Cheah.
The celebration also featured a sumptuous spread of Raya delicacies and live traditional music by local band Acoustic Four Play, creating a joyful and memorable experience for all.
“Today is not just a celebration of Hari Raya. It is a symbol of the noble values we hold together – love, compassion, and the spirit of helping one another in the community,” said Raymond Lew, LIAM Immediate Past President.
“My heartfelt appreciation goes to the caregivers and staff of the homes for your dedication, patience, and unwavering love in nurturing and guiding the children and teenagers under your care. May these young individuals grow up to become responsible, successful adults, who contribute meaningfully to society,” added Raymond.
Meanwhile Chairman of MLRe, YBhg Datuk Kamaruddin Taib, praised the spirit of collaboration between LIAM and MLRe. “Today reminds us how beautiful things can be when we work together. Whether in business or in service to the community, collaboration is key. Our industry is built not just on numbers and policies, but on people—relationships, trust, and unity. And today, that unity is truly alive,” added Datuk Kamaruddin.
The annual Hari Raya programme is one of many initiatives under the Insurans Hayat Cares banner. Over the past 50 years, LIAM and its member companies have carried out numerous CSR efforts, including blood donation drives, contributions to orphanages and elderly homes, hospital visits, youth engagement initiatives and financial education campaigns, to support underprivileged communities across Malaysia.
As part of its ongoing mission to empower Malaysians, the life insurance industry also plays a crucial role in promoting financial literacy, particularly in raising awareness about life insurance protection among the younger generation. As an official partner of the Financial Education Network (FEN) LIAM actively supports FEN’s activities such as financial carnivals, financial literacy month, and the upcoming Second National Strategy for Financial Literacy (NFSL 2.0), a five-year plan launching in Q4 2025 aimed at fostering a financially resilient society.
Backed by the unwavering support of its 16 member companies, LIAM remains steadfast in its commitment to public awareness, financial security, and talent development. Aligned with the Financial Sector Blueprint 2022-2026 agenda, LIAM will continue to ensure the life insurance industry remains dynamic, innovative and inclusive.
