LIAM Supports Rakan KKM Programme in Ensuring Malaysians Have Access to Affordable and Quality Public Healthcare
Kuala Lumpur, 25 October 2024: The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) fully supports the launch of Rakan KKM programme, a government initiative aimed at improving public hospitals so that all Malaysians can access affordable and quality healthcare services.
The programme announced recently by the Government in collaboration with Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs), providing paid healthcare service options at affordable rates for patients. The Rakan KKM is designed with the goal of taking the public healthcare system to even greater heights and addressing the rising cost of healthcare.
The Rakan KKM programme will offer 'premium economy' services at selected public hospitals for elective outpatient, daycare, and inpatient treatments. These services include personalised care, choosing specialists and enhanced privacy and comfort during treatments. It also aims to provide public healthcare workers with an avenue to earn more income, which will in turn increase the retention of key healthcare workers in the public healthcare system. It also ensures that a portion of its revenue is reinvested back into the public healthcare system, which will then benefit the B40 especially. Rakan KKM will also address rising healthcare cost inflation by providing more value-based options for the rakyat, especially for those in the M40 segment.
LIAM CEO, Mark O’Dell said “This programme will make healthcare services more accessible, especially for those living in underserved areas. It is a positive step toward better healthcare for all Malaysians, raising public awareness, and help people make better choices about their health and insurance needs.”
LIAM welcomes MOH’s ongoing discussions with private health insurers to include Rakan KKM services in their policies. This will open new opportunities for the life insurance industry to collaborate with the government and healthcare providers.”
“Insurance companies can support Rakan KKM’s health campaigns through community programs and by offering products that align with public health efforts, which could boost demand for health-related insurance products.”
LIAM looks forward to learning more details about Rakan KKM from the Ministry of Health and is committed to contributing to the success of this programme.
