Mark O’Dell is the CEO of Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) effective 2 January 2019.

A permanent resident of Malaysia, Mark has over 46 years of experience in the life insurance industry including 32 years in Asia, with an excellent track record in spearheading the transformation of the life insurance sector.

In his time in Asia, Mark served as Chief Agency Officer and CEO for AIA operations in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. From 2008 to 2018 he served as CEO of Manulife in Taiwan and was Senior Vice President and Regional Executive for South East Asia from November 2012 to January 2016, overseeing Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, during which these markets experienced strong growth.

Mark holds both the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations from the American College. He is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Registered Financial Planner (RFP) and Industry Fellow at the Social Wellbeing Centre (SWRC) Universiti Malaya.

He was appointed President of the Life Insurance Association of Singapore and the Financial Planning Association of Singapore in 2007-2008 term.

In 2006, he was named “Personality of the Year” by the Asia Insurance Review in recognition of his contributions to the industry and his leadership in the area of corporate social responsibility.

In October 2018, Mark was honoured with the “Outstanding Leaders in Asia” award by ACES (Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability Awards). In 2024, Mark was honoured with the “Lifetime Achievement” award by Asia Insurance Review for his outstanding contributions to the insurance industry at the 28th Asia Insurance Industry Awards 2024.
