The insurance and takaful industry is broadening the eligibility for reimbursement from the COVID-19 Test Fund (CTF) to benefit more consumers

Kuala Lumpur, Saturday, 11 April 2020 – The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) and the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) have broadened the reimbursement eligibility to encourage more insurance policyholders/takaful certificate holders to undergo COVID-19 tests.

Under the revised eligibility, all the policyholders/certificate holders can claim from the CTF if they:
a.    have acute respiratory infection (sudden onset of respiratory infection with at least one of: shortness of breath, cough or sore throat) with or without fever;  OR
b.    are deemed as persons under investigation (PUI) as defined by MoH (latest version below); OR
c.    in contact with a positive COVID-19 case (as per MoH’s definition),
and, have been referred by a doctor (registered with the Malaysia Medical Council)

The insurance and takaful industry’s RM 8 million fund is in support of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to conduct more COVID-19 tests for Malaysians. LIAM is leading the initiative with a RM5 million contribution while PIAM and MTA have pledged RM2 million and RM1 million respectively. The insurance and takaful industry is looking to support nearly 27,000 additional COVID-19 tests of eligible persons through this initiative, and support the government’s objective of increasing testing of the population.

The CTF website www.MyCTF.my will go live for claims submission from today, 11 April 2020 onwards. Consumers may submit their Claim Form with supporting documents for reimbursement online via the portal. For further information on the CTF, kindly visit wwwMyCTF.my or call MyCTF Hotline number at 15500 / 1-300-22-11-88.

Meanwhile, LIAM, PIAM and MTA pay tribute to all healthcare front-liners for their unwavering dedication – often at great personal sacrifices – in the battle against COVID-19. They are the unsung heroes and their relentless effort and commitment is an inspiration to all Malaysians in these unprecedented times of crisis. The industry also expressed appreciation to all Malaysians who had displayed unity in adhering strictly to the MCO to help break the chain of COVID-19 infection.

LIAM President, Ms Loh Guat Lan said, “To all our healthcare workers and front-liners, we applaud your tremendous sacrifices and dedication.  You are the Malaysian heroes who have been working day and night in challenging conditions to save lives.  The industry is committed in ensuring more people to benefit from the COVID-19 Test Fund that has been fully operational to serve our customers.  Additionally, various relief measures have been offered by respective life insurance companies to help Malaysians affected by COVID-19.  Let us all continue to serve our beloved country and go through the challenges together as a nation.”

Added Mr Antony Lee, Chairman of PIAM, “The immediate priority right now is to contain community spread of the virus and that is the focus of our industry fund at this moment.”

“We're all in this together and shows our unity in breaking the chain of this outbreak” said Encik Muhammad Fikri Mohamad Rawi, Chairman of MTA.
