Ms Anusha Thavarajah is the CEO of AIA Bhd.

She was appointed to head AIA, a leading life insurer in Malaysia with total assets worth RM51 billion (as at 30 November 2017) and one of AIA Group’s top five markets, in June 2015. In addition to its three main business lines – Agency, Partnership Distribution and Corporate Solutions, Anusha is also responsible for AIA’s General Insurance, Pension and Asset Management, and Health Services units, as well as AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd, AIA’s jointly owned Takaful company with Public Bank Berhad and Public Islamic Bank Berhad.

Since her appointment, Anusha has been steering the company on its continuing journey of strong growth and transformation. AIA continues to make tremendous headway under her leadership, with market-leading innovations such as the introduction of Malaysia’s first insurance chatbot, Ask Sara.

Anusha’s career in insurance spans over 25 years and began in the United Kingdom. She returned to Malaysia in 2002 and held several leadership roles in AIA and ING, including as AIA’s Deputy General Manager of Operations, Finance & Actuarial where she played a key role in the successful integration of AIA and ING’s businesses in Malaysia.

Prior to her CEO appointment, Anusha was Regional Business Development Director at AIA Group Limited, where she provided strategic leadership to AIA’s businesses in Southeast Asia.

Anusha graduated with First Class Honours in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Birmingham. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, United Kingdom.

Mr Rangam Bir is President and Chief Executive Officer of Gibraltar BSN Life Berhad, the Malaysian entity of Prudential Financial’s international insurance business. Bir is an established international business leader with more than 21 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry. Throughout his career, he has gained experience in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa and established a successful track record of building winning businesses in fast growing emerging markets by leading large teams in multicultural and international business environments.

Bir joined Gibraltar BSN in December 2016 from the Allianz Group where he spent 19 years in various roles. Most recently, he was Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad where he led the company through a digital transformation, establishing it as a leader in innovative digital business models and a top-five player in the Life and Health segment in Malaysia. In Singapore, he led the regional Life & Health Division as well as the regional Property & Casualty business of the Asia Pacific region as regional general manager of Allianz Asia Pacific. During that time, he held several board positions including the position of interim Chief Executive Officer of the general insurance business in China; member of the executive committee of the CPIC Allianz Health Insurance Company in China; and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Allianz Taiwan Life Insurance Company.

Additionally, he was chief executive officer of Allianz Tiriac Asigurari S.A., heading the market-leading insurance company in Romania, and senior vice president and regional chief business officer of Allianz SE in Germany, leading the expansion of Allianz’s insurance and distribution presence in the Central and Eastern European markets. Bir holds a Master of Management Studies in finance and is an electronics engineer by training.

Mr Joseph K. Gross is the CEO of Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad. Bangalore-born, his family moved to Germany in the early 1970’s. He speaks English, German, and is also fluent in French.

A Business Administration graduate from the University of Frankfurt, Germany, Joseph, began his career with Procter & Gamble, a leading global fast moving consumer goods company in 1991. He spent the next 11 years growing with the company and honing his skills as a true business marketer working in Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.



In 2002, Joseph joined Allianz SE in Germany as Senior Vice President Group Marketing. Here, he was instrumental in building Allianz into a strong global brand as well as introducing customer and market driven strategic planning to the Group.  In 2010, as the Executive Vice President and Head of Group Market Management, Joseph led branding, digitalization and multi-access distribution initiatives. He also shaped Allianz Group’s commitment to deliver True Customer Centricity (TCC).


Since April 2016, Joseph oversees Allianz’s life operations in Malaysia.

Mr Ramzi Toubassy was appointed as CEO for AmMetLife Insurance Berhad on 19 September 2014. As Chief Executive Officer for AmMetLife Insurance Berhad, Toubassy is responsible for executing a transformation strategy to achieve profitable growth, accelerate shareholder return, as well as ensuring the operational effectiveness of the AmMetLife business in Malaysia.

Mr Toubassy has been with MetLife since 2012, and previously served as its Head of Face-to-Face Distribution for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Prior to joining MetLife, he was with AIA, where over a period of eight years, he held several key management roles including Deputy Chief Agency Officer for Southeast Asia based in Hong Kong, Chief Distribution Officer in Malaysia, Korea and Vietnam. Having started his career with AIG in 1996, Toubassy has accumulated over 21 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Georgia State University as well as a Master of Arts in International Relations.

YBhg. Dato Koh Yaw Hui the CEO of Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad, is a government scholar of Sarawak.He obtained his Honours Degree in Bachelor of Social Science with major in Economics from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Upon graduation, he commenced work at the Public Works Department (PWD) of Sarawak.

Prior to joining Great Eastern Life in 2002, Dato Koh was attached to a leading petroleum company for twelve years. He first joined Great Eastern Life as the Senior Vice-President, responsible for Agency Management. In February 2007, he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer and was later appointed Chief Executive Officer in January 2008.

He is also a Board Member of Great Eastern Capital (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd., Overseas Assurance Corporation (Holdings) Berhad and I Great Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd. He is a certified Registered Financial Planner, Shariah Registered Financial Planner, Fellow The Malaysian Insurance Institute and has achieved the Fellow Life Management Institute, USA. Further, Dato Koh serves in the Board of Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad.

Ms Loh Guat Lan is the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (GMD/CEO) of Hong Leong Assurance (HLA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hong Leong Financial Group, the holding company of the financial services division for Hong Leong Group Malaysia. 

Ms Loh has 28 years of experience in the life insurance industry.  She began her professional career as a Management Trainee with a reputable international life insurance company.  She took on various leadership positions and gained extensive experience in agency management, branch management, agency development, and training.  Her last role prior to joining HLA was Vice President & Senior Director of Agency (Malaysia), the first lady appointed for such position then in Malaysia and amongst Asia’s six countries in her previous company.

She joined HLA as Chief Operating Officer of the Life Division in August 2007 and was appointed Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer on 1 September 2009. Under her stewardship, the company has grown exponentially and delivered a solid and consistent financial performance.  Today, HLA is the largest local life insurance company in Malaysia.

Ms Loh currently serves as a Director of the following companies: HLA Holdings Sdn Bhd, Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Bhd, Hong Leong Insurance (Asia) Limited, HL Assurance Pte Ltd, and MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd.

Mr Gan Leong Hin assumed the position of CEO of Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad (PAMB) on 26 November 2015. Before being named as the CEO, Hin as he is fondly called by his colleagues in Prudential, joined PAMB in 2013 as Chief Financial Officer and led important initiatives which include the formulation and execution of PAMB’s strategic vision to drive profitable growth and strengthen its long-term capabilities as a leading life insurer in Malaysia. Hin is a qualified actuary who has more than 26 years of experience in the life insurance and investment businesses in Asia, Australia and the U.K.

He has held senior management roles across a range of business lines including product management and marketing, risk management, financial reporting, valuation, corporate finance and restructuring.

Hin graduated from the London School of Economics with first-class honours and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in UK and Australia.

Mr Toi See Jong is the CEO of Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd. Mr Toi has been instrumental in steering the Company into the next phase of its corporate development and position it as the leading insurance company reputed for excellent service and products.

A qualified actuary from United Kingdom, Mr Toi is a well-recognized business leader with a wealth of experience in insurance coupled with strong understanding of both the local and overseas market.

He has successfully spearheaded and managed financial organizations in various positions over the span of 28 years with the first position based in United Kingdom. He assumed positions such as Appointed Actuary and Chief Executive Officer in Malaysia before taking on other senior positions in China, Singapore and Hong Kong.
